Discreet, natural photos of christenings and church celebrations in the heart of Trowbridge

Christenings and church events

Photographing at St James’ Church

St James’ is the parish church of Trowbridge, and it is just a few minutes from my home.

St James’ Church on Church Street is one of the most beautiful buildings in Trowbridge. It is Grade I listed, it was largely rebuilt around 1450, and its 160 ft spire is the second highest in Wiltshire after Salisbury Cathedral. Inside there is plenty of character for photographs, and outside the churchyard and the stone walls make a calm setting for family groups.

I photographed the christening of twin sisters Freya and Florence here, a joyful family day with grandparents, godparents and lots of small guests. You can see a selection below and the full gallery here.

How I photograph a christening

  • Before the service. Guests arriving, the christening gown, little details and the first family hugs.
  • During the service. I stay discreet and work without flash. I always speak to the vicar beforehand about where I can stand.
  • After the service. Family groups with parents, godparents and grandparents, plus a few relaxed portraits of the baby and siblings outside the church.
  • The celebration. If you would like, I can come along to the party afterwards for natural photos of family and friends.

Other church events

I also photograph First Communions, weddings and blessings. For Polish families I can work bilingually in English and Polish. See my First Communion offer, my small wedding packages or the family photography page.

Booking a christening

Every christening is a little different, so send me the date, the time of the service and how long you would like me to stay, and I will send you a quote. A £50 booking fee secures the date and is deducted from the final price.
