Delhi, India
India is one of those countries that should be on everyone’s travel bucket list, and Delhi, its buzzing capital, is the perfect place to start. Delhi never seems to sleep – there’s always something happening. Whether you’re navigating the busy streets or marvelling at the historic landmarks, every corner of the city offers something new and exciting.
One of the things that caught me by surprise was the difference in entry fees for foreigners. It’s not unusual for tourists to pay significantly more than locals, but it was still a bit of a shock. Being European made us stand out even more, and at times we became part of the attraction! Locals would approach us, often placing their kids next to us for impromptu photo ops, sometimes without even asking. It was a strange experience, and scammers were occasionally lurking about, trying their luck. But honestly, those odd moments were quickly forgotten in the whirlwind of everything else that Delhi had to offer.
What truly stayed with me were the colours – they’re everywhere! From the vibrant saris to the lively markets, Delhi is a visual feast. The warmth of the people, always ready with a smile, made the experience even richer. It’s a city full of contrasts and surprises, and I found myself falling in love with India more and more as each day passed.
One regret? We didn’t dare to try the street food. The sheer variety and mouth-watering aromas were tempting, but we played it safe. That said, the food scene is incredible, and it’s definitely a reason to visit India all on its own.
We’ve only scratched the surface of this vast country, and I’m already planning a return. There’s so much more to see beyond Delhi, and I can’t wait to explore what the rest of India has in store.
